Neomox Bolus

Dosage form: Intrauterine bolus, veterinary use.

Pharmacotherapeutic group: Systemic antimicrobial, antibacterial agent.

Target species: Cattle (beef and dairy), small ruminants (sheep, goats), pigs, horses.

Composition:
Each 4 g bolus contains active ingredients:

  • Neomycin sulfate – 500 mg

  • Oxytetracycline hydrochloride – 500 mg

Excipients: Potato starch 1.2 g, lactose 1 g, microcrystalline cellulose 0.36 g, sodium croscarmellose 0.2 g, polyvinylpyrrolidone 0.08 g, magnesium stearate 0.04 g, talc 0.12 g.

Description: Yellow elongated bolus, scored on one side and marked “BIO” on the other.

Packaging: Solid elongated bolus #6 in blister, #5 blisters packed in cardboard box.

Pharmacological properties:

  • Neomycin belongs to the aminoglycoside group of broad-spectrum antibiotics with bactericidal action against Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Shigella, Enterobacteriae, Staphylococcus spp.) and some Gram-positive bacteria.

  • Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic, active against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Micrococcus, Bacillus, Corynebacterium, Campylobacter) and protozoa (Trichomonas vaginalis).

Indications:
Used in cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and pigs for the prevention and treatment of postpartum infections of the reproductive tract caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline and neomycin.
Indicated after complicated and pathological parturition, abortion, manual removal of retained placenta, acute postpartum endometritis.

Dosage and administration:
Before use, external genitalia must be thoroughly sanitized. The preparation is administered intrauterinely 2–4 hours after parturition.

  • Prophylaxis:

    • Cows, mares: 1 bolus once or twice with a 48-hour interval.

    • Sheep, goats, sows: ½ bolus once or twice with a 48-hour interval.

  • Treatment:

    • Cows, mares: 1–3 boluses intrauterine every 48 hours until recovery.

    • Sheep, goats, sows: 1–2 boluses intrauterine every 48 hours until recovery.

    In severe cases: 1 administration every 24 hours. The procedure can be repeated up to 3 times, maximum 5 times if necessary.

Side effects: Rarely, allergic reactions may occur (fever, angioedema, pruritus, erythema, skin rash).

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides or tetracycline antibiotics.

Withdrawal period:

  • Meat: slaughter permitted 6 days after last administration.

  • Milk: safe for human consumption 4 days after last administration.
    Use of meat/milk before these periods is allowed only for non-productive animals or must be disposed of as per veterinarian’s advice.

Storage conditions: Store in a dry, dark place, out of reach of children, at 10–25 °C. Do not store with food, drink, or animal feed.

Shelf life: 2 years from production date.
