Injectable solution for veterinary use.
Indicated for cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, and cats as a central nervous system stimulant.
Composition
Each 1 mL of injectable solution contains:
Active substances: Caffeine – 80 mg, Sodium benzoate – 120 mg
Inactive substance: Water for injection – up to 1 mL
Target species
Cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, cats
Pharmacological properties
Caffeine-sodium benzoate stimulates the central nervous system, acting mainly on the cerebral cortex, respiratory, and vasomotor centers. It significantly stimulates the spinal cord, enhances cardiac activity, has a complex effect on the vascular system, increases the performance of striated muscles, and promotes diuresis.
The stimulating effect of caffeine increases physical activity and reduces fatigue and drowsiness.
The intensity and duration of the drug’s action depend on the animal’s general condition, functional activity of its body systems, type of higher nervous activity, and the administered dose. Excessive doses may cause depression of nerve cells.
After injection, caffeine-sodium benzoate is rapidly absorbed and mainly excreted by the kidneys, partially via the gastrointestinal tract.
Indications for use
Used to stimulate the central nervous system in horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, and cats in cases of general weakness, exhaustion, poisoning (including narcotic or sedative drugs), muscle weakness, post-partum paresis, and diseases accompanied by depression of the CNS, cardiovascular, and respiratory functions.
Also indicated for weakened heart function, chronic myocarditis, myodystrophy, chronic myodegeneration, and as a vasodilator in cases of vascular spasms in the brain, heart, and kidneys, as well as in spastic conditions of the gastrointestinal tract (intestinal spasms).
Contraindications
Contraindicated in animals with hypersensitivity to any of the components, marked hypertension, excitability, arrhythmias, myodegeneration, or paralysis of peripheral blood vessels.
Adverse reactions
When used according to instructions, side effects are rare. In case of allergic reactions, discontinue administration and provide antihistaminic and symptomatic treatment.
Dosage and administration
Administer subcutaneously or intramuscularly at the following doses (per animal):
Cattle, horses: 10 – 25 mL
Sheep, goats, pigs: 2 – 7 mL
Dogs: 0.5 – 1.5 mL
Cats: 0.2 – 0.5 mL
The dose and duration depend on the animal’s weight and condition. If necessary, administration may be repeated 2–3 times at 7-hour intervals.
Special instructions
Individual sensitivity to caffeine-sodium benzoate varies among animals, so dosage should be adjusted according to the animal’s nervous system response.
Overdose: may cause restlessness, excitability, tachycardia, insomnia, vomiting. In such cases, discontinue use and administer symptomatic treatment.
Drug interactions
Compatible with cardiac glycosides, atropine, bronchodilators, analgesics, ergot alkaloids, bromides.
Reduces the effect of hypnotics and narcotics.
Do not mix in the same syringe with astringent or acidic solutions (precipitation of caffeine tannate or benzoic acid may occur).
